Properties:
HPMC dissolves in water as well as in certain organic solvents, including ethanol, propyl alcohol, and ethylene chloride. In water, it functions as a nonionic surfactant and demonstrates surface-active behavior. The gelation point differs among grades; for instance, a 2% solution of 60RT HPMC will gel at 60 °C, with the number "60" indicating the gelation temperature.
Applications
HPMC is a versatile pharmaceutical excipient, essential for tablet and granule coating, granulation, and controlled release of active ingredients. Beyond pharmaceutical applications, it is also employed in PVC production, construction materials, food products, and personal care formulations.
